Also, just FYI, sometimes Google doesn't care that meta descriptions are custom and it will pull them on its own from the content on the page regardless.

Kylie , thank you for taking on this task. If Google will pull a meta description at random, then do we need to better the demo content?  Is there a clear way of knowing from where Google will pull? Like, the first paragraph? 

Nicol Google pulls different content into a meta description if it thinks that the current description isn't helpful enough to a potential reader. It's like it overrides to try and give better information that's specific to the page. 

I wouldn't say there's necessarily a way of knowing exactly where it'll pull from, but the first paragraph is a safe bet. Somewhere that has relevant keywords. I don't know much about the demo content; where does it come from? We'd want it to have some optimization I'm sure, even if we can't customize it for location/client.

I would be hesitant to try to rank with demo content. Usually, those kinds of pages should be non-indexable, because they are used on many websites and wouldn't rank well anyway. 

Good point! Which pages have demo content? Do we leave them out of the meta description update? 

Kylie I think it is still fine to update the metadata so it reads well. I just meant I wouldn't focus on updating the service page content, however, our demo content is being worked on by Kamie as far as I am aware. I would have to do an audit to figure out what is demo vs unique. This is one of our oldest clients.
