The basics:-Currently, there’s only a few forms of cancer screening available that catch things early: colonoscopies for colon, mammograms for breast cancer, PAP smears for cervical cancer, CT scans for smokers for lung cancer, PSA blood test for prostate cancer, skin exams to eval for skin cancer.
-Most other cancers are often detected when it’s at a later stage or accidentally caught. Later-stage cancers mean that more likely to result in death and/or major morbidities.
-The earlier cancer can be caught, the higher likelihood of survival
-Every cell in our bodies has slight variabilities to the DNA, mainly in the form of methylation. (Think accessories for an outfit). Cells release some DNA in the blood.
-Galleri is a blood test that detects quite a few variations of the cell and tumor DNA, with the ability to screen for 40 different cancers.
