Well I actually had to create the NEW MILESTONE for her today which means she had them ready and was not yet paid. 
Having worked on Upwork for so long, I know the ins and outs of it; especially when it comes to receiving payments. I loathe having to wait for weeks for payments once work was done. Yet that is exactly what happens if you do not set up milestones and approve them right away.

Okay, this is a great time to bring up, once again, how fucking ridiculous upwork is. I made a message about time tracking software. I think we should transition to that. 

Lets do it sir Chris  - upwork doesn't take out taxes anyway. 

I asked her if we could pay her directly. So ill get back to you. In that message I made I linked to a page with a run down of all the different software. 

It would save us a significant amount of money

Melissa, be sure to NEVER discuss payment outside of Upwork while on Upwork. They will flag you for it. 
I totally agree that we should pay them directly once they have proven to be reliable. I do not see any reason why they would not want to since she would save about $22.00 for every $105 we pay her. 
That's like a free article right there. 
I would stick to per article pricing as opposed to HOURLY. Besides, you cannot beat $35.00 an article on Upwork. Hardly nobody pays that.

But to be clear, that is not an article for us to use. I believe it was a SAMPLE of his previous work. We did not pay him for this article so we cannot use it. 
As to your observations, I completely agree. I added this writer to our team. However, I have 3 orders from other ones being worked on as I type this. Once those have been submitted to us, then we can review, request revisions and make suggestions. 
On the SEO, I can add some LSI and extra keywords to the articles once they are done and approved by you to make them better. 
We can discuss that later once we receive the content.

My only concern is how to use some of the articles, especially the ones with long tail keywords with the Yoast SEO plugin. Seeing we can only choose one keyword, and many of these articles are not optimized for one keyword, how would you suggest going about optimizing the articles for yoast?

I just sent you an email before I saw this comment.
The first article was much better than the last one. The last one had numerous grammatical errors and so on. So we can likely remove him from the team or see if he improves.
To your question, we can make a few edits and insert the right keyword you would like a few times within the articles. The last article perhaps work on the #1 fat  freezing procedure or non surgical procedure. Either of those 2 keywords.
The first one, we can add a few more "Body toning" or "unwanted fat cells" keywords and use either of those.

Once you get the hang of it and learn to use the platform, it is okay. 
The content from one author is good. Melissa had some suggestions she made to his article. 
I would have to wait on Melissa to tell me whether or not she wants to use them again. 

Hector  could we work with the same writer so I could just try training the best one? And how reliable do you think the writers are. Training is just such a big investment.

Sure we could. I was trying to send the last author - which submitted 2 articles - a direct message. Perhaps I can set up a direct line of communication with him and work directly in the future. 
BTW, I picked 5 star writers only.

Can we get two articles on fat reduction treatments.  Keyword is fat reduction. Basically choose an intro of what fat reduction treatments are (and how they differ from weight loss.) Then paragraphs on Liposuction, CoolSculpting, and two other methods of non-invasive fat reduction.

On another note, Textbroker does NOT allow me to contact anyone directly or share personal info. That means we may never be able to get in touch directly with any of these authors.
I wanted to see if we tried Freelancer.com which lets you do that and more. I used it and it is an alternative to both upwork and textbroker.
We need one where we can contact these people directly; especially if we want to get someone for long term and to train.
Please let me know your thoughts.

I figured with the long tail keywords it may force these writers to concentrate on the substance of the article or central theme. Plus the SEO benefits of course. 
I think we should try Freelancer since they have a lot of writers there and you can contact them directly. Plus, they charge a lot less than Upwork. I will try to see if I can find us at least 3 writers on Upwork this week. 
On the Hubstaff, I love it. Because before I had to take breaks in 30 or 1 hour increments to make hour tracking easier to add up. Now I can take 10 or 15 minutes and just clock back in. Plus, it counts my time correctly which I sometimes did not do on my own.

Unfortunately no. 
I tried sending him and the other person a message with my medstar email and it was flagged. I also tried sending them a link to the Google doc with the suggestions you mentioned and they flagged that too. These people at Textbroker are really strict with their no contact policy. It is why I mentioned that we may need - HAVE TO - look elsewhere. It makes no sense working with someone you are not able to even send a Google docs link to. 

FYI, I am communicating with a guy who seems promising. I just ordered an article from him yesterday. Once I have it, I will send it to you and hopefully we can add him to the team since I am communicating with him directly via email. 
In the meantime, I will continue to look for other writers for you elsewhere.

I think we can all agree that not being able to directly contact any writers - and a few other issues - is enough for us to try to find another alternative to Textbroker. I placed orders there and no one responds. 
I found a new writer which so far is doing well. I can find others if needed. 
In the meantime, I been in contact with Textbroker and they can refund the money we have allocated in that account. 
Please let me know what you guys think so I can move on with the refund. Or if you still want to continue to use them.
